The project entailed the design, installation and testing & commissioning of a moving block signalling system and associated communication systems upgrade on the Jubilee Line. An NTTX team of assurance and health, safety, quality & environmental (HSQE) professionals, plus support staff, was put together to assist the client where resources were limited. The team managed the technical assurance, engineering safety and HSQE management aspects of the control centre communications work schedule.
This was a complex project, involving safety critical systems, which had to be brought into service in a staged process, whilst maintaining safe railway operations. The project ran for nearly five years, but the team regularly faced challenging programme timescales.
The broad range of requirements included developing the engineering safety case, maintaining the safety hazard log, undertaking software validation in accordance with EN50128, software & hardware configuration management and developing project specific HSQE plans.
NTTX consultants also provided support to the resignalling element of the project, including managing the equipment environmental testing programme and obtaining equipment approvals.
