“I’ve been working in health promotion and community development for over 30 years,” says Andrew, “and I believe the voluntary, community and faith sectors make a very special contribution to improving living and working conditions for people in local communities.”

That belief was, and remains, a key component of his job. But Andrew has turned his beliefs into practical help for others. Over the years he has been a Sunday School teacher, chair of a Branch of the Downs Syndrome Association, Cub Scout Leader, Trustee of Groundwork (Bury), Partner to the Christian Children’s Fund Ukraine, and is a former chair of the national Society of Health Education and Promotion Specialists.

“At the moment my out-of-work activities are mainly dedicated to role that football can play within communities,” says Andrew. He is a Trustee of Bury Football in the Community, and is supporting FC United of Manchester in their commitment to promote the health of their fans and those communities with which they have contact. It is in this latter role that Andrew has just drafted a Health Impact Assessment to help in the Club’s bid to develop what is known as a health-promoting stadium.
